When .htaccess clashes with http auth

removing index.php from expressionengine urls, take II. This time, a client need http auth on a file in their x-cart payment directory. While x-cart and expressionengine coexist nicely, the top-level .htaccess that rewrites index.php out of the urls was clashing with http auth. In this case, a simple addition to .htaccess before the rewrite rule (exclude method, d’oh, more on that later) allowed the http auth to function (prior, it was essentially throwing a 401):

RewriteCond $1 !^(401.shtml)

carry on.

Geography.

I'm in the beautiful Sonoran Desert in Tucson, AZ. You'll often find me in my childhood home in Jackson Hole, WY, or the beautiful beaches of Provincetown, MA. But my clients are everywhere.

Gratitude.

David Swift took this beautiful photograph. Stephen Caver and Colly’s work taught me much about media queries and how the perfect word is as important as the perfect picture. Sweet little font by Sudtipos.
